The Otolaryngology Technician provides assistance to providers performing ear care. Under the direction of the healthcare provider, clinical staff and/or department leadership, provides medical assistance and medical clerical support to the specialty clinic; performs administrative and clinical skills in the medical clinic environment; is responsible for working with multiple providers in order to provide quality coordinated care to clinic patients; conducts routine diagnostic tests and assists in the care and treatment of ENT and audiology patients;

aids in the repair and testing of hearing aids, but also perform clerical tasks within the setting of an audiology clinic; obtains medical histories from patients, administer diagnostic tests, and provide instruction as directed and within scope of practice.

Checks the hearing aids when they arrive, which includes reading the hearing aids on the computer and running an electroacoustic analysis; performs routine maintenance of hearing aids, cleans receivers and microphones of ITE aids, and cleans corrosion in battery compacts; sends out hearing aid repairs as needed; tracks orders to ensure that they arrive in a timely manner.

Verifies equipment is available in each room Patient room preparation, and room selection dependent upon procedure scheduled; shuts down all equipment in booth room, hearing aid fitting room, lab and diagnostics room and verifies all rooms are clean at the end of the day; maintains inventory of clinical supplies.

Performs hearing aid orientation, including basic care and use of the hearing aid (insertion, removal, adjusting volume, etc.); provides accessory orientations, pairing of devices and troubleshooting of accessories; completes basic paperwork such as repair forms, purchase agreements, and warranty information.

Verifies patient pick up of repaired hearing aid, arranges as necessary fitting and testing appointments; assists patient with proper fitting and operation of hearing aid(s).
