Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Sanitation Supervisor and the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, the Sanitation Lead is responsible for overseeing the sanitation team and ensuring compliance with all sanitation protocols. This role involves managing personnel on the production floor, ensuring proper use of PPE, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and facilities according to internal SOPs and the Master Sanitation Schedule.
EssentialDuties
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the sanitation team to ensure sanitary operations, ensuring that all sanitation tasks are completed on time per industry best sanitation practices.
- Ensure all team members adhere to PPE requirements, including but not limited to eye protection, bump caps, and gloves, and that PPE is used correctly.
- Monitor compliance with safety protocols and address any performance or safety issues promptly, reporting them to the Sanitation Supervisor.
- Facilitate routine training sessions for sanitation staff on safety protocols, chemical handling, sanitation procedures, equipment use, proper use of PPE, GMPs, and sanitation procedures.
- Oversee the cleaning and sanitation of specified equipment and facilities, ensuring compliance with internal SOPs and the Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Conduct regular inspections to verify that equipment is sanitized properly per internal SSOPs and that employees are adhering to safety standards.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including color coding systems for sanitation tools and equipment.
- Verify that detailed chemical label instructions for sanitation programs and SOPs are being followed.
- Ensure that chemicals are mixed according to manufacturer instructions and are handled correctly by staff.
- Support the Sanitation Supervisor in maintaining accurate records of sanitation activities, including cleaning schedules, chemical usage, and equipment inspections.
- Ensure proper handling and usage of chemicals, including verifying concentrations and effectiveness according to manufacturer specifications.
- Supervise the correct mixing of chemicals and ensure that sanitation staff follow proper procedures for chemical handling and application.
- Report damaged or worn equipment to the Supervisor or Team Leader and coordinate repairs or replacements.
- Operate CIP (Clean-in-Place) and COP (Clean-Out-of-Place) procedures on a regular basis.
- Support plant sanitation and quality systems and perform any other duties assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor or FSQA Manager.
High School Diploma/GED preferred but not required.
Certifications / Licenses / Specialized Trainings RequiredChemical Training / Certifications preferred but not required.
Total Years of Experience Required1 – 5 Years in a Sanitation Role.
Skills & Abilities- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
- Self‑motivated with a proven ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well with others and manage personnel effectively.
- Experience with chemical handling and preparation in a food production environment.
- Ability to assist the Sanitation Supervisor in managing personnel and overseeing sanitation tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ability to perform job duties efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Capable of working effectively in a team environment and providing leadership when needed.
- Adhere to all B&G Foods, Inc. policies as stated in the Employee Handbook and follow internal procedures.
- Ability to work extended hours, additional days, and flexible shifts with short notice schedule changes.
