Overview

Field Workers (Harvest):
Heavy labor field worker to harvest (Clean and Core of Head Lettuce, Head Lettuce, Romaine Carton, Romaine Top and Tail; Value added, Heart/Mixed Leaf carton, and Cabbage Value added). Duties include harvesting, trimming, packaging, and preparing produce for value-added processing. Work involves walking in uneven furrows behind a harvesting conveyor belt or riding a machine platform, determining size and quality, and using harvesting knives as directed by field Supervisors.

Both cored lettuce and romaine-related tasks are described below with weight considerations and safety notes.

Responsibilities and workflow (summarized)

• Clean and Core of Head Lettuce: harvest, trim outer leaves, remove core, inspect for defects, and place into bins on a belt; bins can weigh up to 50 lbs empty; pallets up to 95 lbs empty.
• Head Lettuce: cut, bag, pack, and heart lettuce in the field; prepare product for packing (tie, wash, sort, wrap, seal) and move cartons/totes for loading; conventional stacking on pallets; maintain bin/pallet integrity and labeling requirements; weight limits apply as above.
• Romaine Top & Tail: harvest romaine lettuce, trim outer leaves, core, inspect quality, and sort into bins for shipping; similar weight constraints and pallet/bulk handling as described.
• General field conditions: work outdoors in varying weather; potential exposure to mud, water, grease; walking on uneven ground; bending and standing for extended periods; no smoking/alcohol/ firearms in field or housing.
• Van driving (Cal Van): possess a valid state driver’s license and pass Class B Physical exam; register as a FLCE driver; employer may cover related costs.

Additional product lines

• Romaine, Hearts, Mix Leaf: harvest, bag, pack, and load romaine, heart lettuce, and mix leaves in the field; follow harvesting protocols and safety practices; maintain packing/handling standards.

Requirements

• Must have 1 month of work experience with the produce as defined in this application, including harvest work.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and use hand tools including cutting knives.
• Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather (rain, cold, high winds, etc.).
• Must be able to bend, stand/walk for extended periods and work on uneven ground.
• No smoking, alcohol, firearms in field or housing.
• To drive a Van, employees must possess a valid driver’s license (state issued) and pass Class B Physical exam and register as an FLCE driver.
