DAWSON is seeking several experienced Environmental Monitors to join our conservation and planning team for a dedicated project located along the U.S./Mexico International Border. DAWSON is seeking multiple environmental monitors with biological/ecological experience in the following locations:

  • Yuma Sector, Project Located along the US/Mexico border east of the Colorado River in Yuma, Arizona.

This is a full-time (40-hours per week plus overtime) position on a large-scale government project. The ideal candidate will be motivated, be a self-starter, be safety oriented, and hold previous experience working as a biological monitor at a construction Site. Candidates should be comfortable working around heavy equipment, be able to work independently, have a clean driving record, be able to pass a background check, and be familiar using GPS and tablets to document detailed environmental and project information.

Responsibilities
  • Provide daily environmental field notes with photographs regarding compliance with project best management practices.
  • Collect project-related data, which may include supporting surveys for listed species; surveying out in front of construction, document potential environmental best management practices non-compliance and reporting to Government Point of Contact.
  • Conduct pre-construction surveys for nesting birds, state and federally listed plants and wildlife, as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with a variety of personnel working on the project, including construction personnel, Government, colleagues, regulatory agencies or stakeholders, and others.
Requirements
  • BS in biological sciences or related field.
  • Previous environmental monitoring at construction sites work required.
  • Be willing to work in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, or cold) and possibly traverse steep terrain in some locations. Candidates must be able to work independently. The position may be flexible in that it can vary in intensity throughout the year but does require the successful candidate to be in the field every week-day for one year.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
  • Familiarity understanding taxonomy and have good plant identification skills for areas along the U.S. Mexico Border.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring at construction sites.
  • Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently as well as with supervision.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
