An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand daily operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. NVA hospitals share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Externs will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate at The Animal Center of Zachary.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. for stipend details and amounts.
