Library Volunteer – Adult Literacy Tutor
Muskingum County Library System is seeking Adult Literacy Tutors to support adult learners in improving their reading and communication skills.
Location: John McIntire (220 N Fifth St, Zanesville, OH 43701)
Closing Date: Ongoing
Job ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, Adult Literacy Tutors will report to the Adult Literacy Specialist and perform various tasks related to tutoring Adult Learners.
Necessary Qualifications- High School diploma
- Valid State of Ohio driver’s license
- Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions
- Patience
- Positive attitude
- Educational background
Minimum of four hours per month, for six months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Physically load and unload materials for transportation to and from meeting locations
- Relate well with the general public and exhibit a broad reading background
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with library patrons and fellow tutors
- Exhibit creativity to prepare informative and engaging lessons
- Maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive subject matter
- Ability to relate well with adults of varying economic and social backgrounds
