The City of Zanesville, Ohio, is seeking a qualified Water Superintendent to oversee the city’s water treatment and distribution systems. The position requires expertise in water operations, leadership, and compliance with environmental and safety standards.

• Manage water treatment and distribution operations, plan work priorities, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Ensure the water plant operates according to OEPA requirements and EPA operating & discharge reports.
• Train supervisors and staff, evaluate employee performance, and handle work complaints within the city’s authority.
• Approve payroll, construction plans, and payroll budgets, and recommend material and equipment purchases.
• Plan future water system needs, coordinate contracted work, and oversee construction site visits and inspections.
• Maintain open communication with engineers, architects, contractors, and the Public Service Director regarding projects and operational status.
• Respond to customer complaints and inquiries, and develop water plant budgets and operational procedures.
• Ensure compliance with EPA mandates and city policies through development of operational procedures.

Direct supervision of the Water Division Secretary, Water Maintenance & Meter Supervisor, Water Plant Operators, and Water Plant Maintenance Mechanic. Indirect supervision includes Water Maintenance Crew Leaders and Water Maintenance Workers. Operate equipment such as pickup trucks, pipeline locators, metal detectors, and electrical test tools as required.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with ten (10) years of experience in water treatment and distribution, including management of others.
• Class III State of Ohio Water Supply Operator’s certificate required.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis, procurement, and budgeting.
• Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of appointment.
