Overview
Senior R&D Engineer – Hardware, Firmware & Mechanical Design
I am partnering with an innovative medical technology design centre based in Zug, to appoint a Senior R&D Engineer to lead their product development process. The company develops connected, sensor driven medical products, including IoT enabled devices that combine electronics, mechanics, and embedded software within a regulated, quality focused environment.
This is a truly hands on, end to end engineering role, ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of electronics hardware, mechanical design, and embedded firmware. You will play a central role in shaping product architecture, driving technical decisions, and supporting development from early concept through industrialisation and series production.
The Role at a Glance- Design and develop analog, digital, and microcontroller based electronic circuits
- Define EMC compliant PCB layout requirements, test prototypes, and support validation
- Create mechanical concepts and full product architectures aligned with customer requirements
- Deliver detailed mechanical designs with simulations, including thermal and tolerance analysis
- Design for manufacturing using plastics, injection molding, sheet metal, and die casting
- Develop embedded software and firmware in C/C++, including architecture, coding, testing, and validation
- Own documentation, design controls, and handover to series manufacturing
- Collaborate closely with international design centres and cross functional stakeholders
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- At least five years of industry experience within regulated or quality driven environments
- Strong multidisciplinary background across electronics, mechanical design, and embedded software
- Practical experience with Autodesk Fusion for mechanical design
- Confident use of electronic lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and VNAs
- Fluency in English and German, written and spoken
- Structured, analytical mindset with strong problem solving skills
- Exposure to innovative, connected medical products with real world impact
- A modern, secure working environment in Canton Zug
