Job Overview

The Design Engineer in the Platform Development department is responsible for supporting design‑related aspects of one of our autoinjector product platforms. This includes sustaining engineering, continuous improvement initiatives, and helping ensure our product platform remains reliable, compliant, and competitive in evolving markets.

The role requires strong mechanical design expertise and the ability to contribute effectively within cross‑functional platform development teams. The successful candidate is expected to apply modern methods and tools such as Design for Six Sigma and Systems Engineering Processes in the design process and translate evolving market and regulatory requirements into robust and practical design solutions that meet SHL’s customer needs.

By aligning with the organization’s long‑term mission and goals, this role contributes to maintaining high standards of quality, scalability, and innovation throughout the product lifecycle.

Main Responsibilities
  • Plan, design and execution of device design tasks for one of SHL’s platforms including device architecture refinement, engineering requirement establishment, 3D/2D modeling, Design for Functionality/Manufacturability/Sustainability/Cost, performance analysis and risk‑based design assessment planning, etc., to fulfill all product requirements.
  • Thoroughly document and communicate results through authorship of technical memos, reports and presentations.
  • Evaluate market and further stakeholder feedback and identify and mitigate risks and improvement possibilities associated with device functionality, reliability, safety, cost, sustainability and manufacturing scalability.
  • Support the device technology and patent landscaping evaluations and provide accordingly design recommendations and design revision plans.
  • Support platform updates and changes through rigorous change control processes, conducting risk assessments and necessary verifications/validations.
  • Support NCMRs from production and support root cause analysis beyond the design scope of the platform.
  • Strong engagement with SHL’s Subject Matter Experts for Human Factors, Regulatory, Engineering & Manufacturing, Testing, Quality Engineering & Regulatory Compliance.
  • At least 1 year of working experience with injection molding‑based products in the medical or a similar regulated industry or 2–3 years of experience in a related role in a less regulated industry.
  • Excellent skills in CAD (Solidworks or equivalent), simulation software, and statistical analysis.
  • Creative problem solver with a structured, requirements‑driven approach to design implementation.
  • Willingness to learn, evaluate, and apply modern tools and methods for design excellence such as Six Sigma and Systems Engineering concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate with designers and cross‑functional teams to realize complex design solutions.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or other similar discipline.
  • Fluency in English is a must.

  • Strong communication skills with open‑mindedness, initiative, constructive & positive thinking, persistent, results‑oriented, and able to work under pressure in changing environments and the ability to clearly present technical information to support project work and decision‑making.
