Senior Teaching and Research Assistant position
The Department of History at the University of Zurich is one of the largest and most diverse historical institutes in the German‑speaking world. Around 130 members of staff teach and conduct research here; around 2000 students are enrolled on Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses and doctoral programs.
Applications from all periods (from antiquity to contemporary history) are possible.
Responsibilities- Development and implementation of a postdoctoral project / habilitation
- Teaching 3 courses per year
- Participation in the academic administration at the Department of History
- Active participation in at least one of the Department of History’s key research themes
- Excellent PhD in history (Thesis defense completed at the time of application), academic career of no more than 4 years since obtaining a Ph.D.
- International visibility (demonstrated through high‑quality publications and mobility)
- Determination to pursue an academic career
- Excellent language skills in German and English
- Teaching experience and willingness to undergo further didactic training
- Opportunity to advance your own research while expanding your teaching and organizational skills.
- Part of a vibrant Department and opportunity to interact with researchers and faculty from different areas and periods of history.
- Position limited to an initial 3 years with the possibility of one 3‑year extension; conditions of employment and salary based on cantonal regulations.
