Professorship in Civic Architecture & Urban Design

Overview

The Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich invites applications for two professorships in civic architecture, both based at the Institute of Design and Architecture (IEA). The new professors will focus on the character and role of civic architecture and welcome diverse approaches.

• Teach design studios and lectures in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Architecture, including supervision of Master’s theses.
• Develop a cutting‑edge research agenda focused on projects that engage with society and create resilient and inclusive urban spaces.
• Promote a contextual and sustainable vision of architecture, incorporating contemporary digital design and production techniques.
• Collaborate interdisciplinarily within the Department and with other ETH institutes such as IEA, LUS, public agencies and civil‑society members.

• Substantial built oeuvre and competence in design and realization of high‑quality civic architecture.
• University degree, accreditation by architects, and experience in research and teaching.
• Leadership of a group and a contribution to the development of the Department beyond the discipline.
• Courses at ETH Zurich are taught in German or English; language proficiency is required.
