Postdoc in Direct Ink Writing of Thermo‑Electric Materials
We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc to develop methods for direct ink writing of thermo‑electric materials onto non‑planar metallic substrates as part of the Meta.
Morphos project, funded by the ESA ESDI Phi‑Lab Switzerland.
The goal of the project is to design and produce thermally actuated structures and mechanisms incorporating thermo‑electric materials for use in space applications.
Responsibilities- Characterize powdered materials for ink formulation.
- Develop DIW process for ceramic and TE materials, optimise parameters and evaluate resolution.
- Set up, program and operate DIW equipment.
- Determine optimal debinding and sintering steps.
- Characterize sintered materials: density, microstructure, defects, shrinkage, distortions and preliminary thermoelectrical properties.
- Run validation studies under simulated environmental conditions.
- Assist with industrial transfer of the developed technologies.
- Publish research findings in leading international journals and present at conferences.
- Engage in teaching and lab duties outside of the project (15–20% of working time).
- PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.
- Experience in direct ink writing technology, thermoelectric and ceramic materials, powder technologies and material characterization, with a strong publication record.
- Strong communication, organisational and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English;
German skills are a plus.
We offer a dynamic, interdisciplinary, international working environment within the Advanced Manufacturing Lab (am|z) and support postdocs in developing career perspectives.
