Overview
Internship - Measurement Systems for Industrial Process Monitoring
inspire AG is Switzerland’s leading competence center for product innovation and advanced manufacturing. As a strategic partner of ETH Zurich, our mission is to transfer knowledge and technology from academic research into the Swiss mechanical, electrical, and metal industries.
Project backgroundWe are looking for a motivated intern to support the setup, integration, and validation of measurement systems for an industry-oriented research project in advanced manufacturing. The focus is on preparing a sensor and monitoring system for preliminary test runs on an industrial test bench.
Responsibilities- Define relevant process parameters and quality metrics for experimental validation.
- Select, position, and integrate suitable measurement technologies, such as pressure and flow sensors, imaging systems, and additional process-monitoring equipment.
- Implement the data-acquisition architecture, including hardware interfaces, sampling rates, signal processing, and automated data logging.
- Integrate the measurement system into an industrial test-bench environment and prepare representative preliminary test runs.
Required experience
- CH/EU/EFTA citizenship or valid Swiss work permit
- BSc/MSc studies in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- Interest in experimental work, measurement technology, sensors, or industrial manufacturing processes
- Basic programming and data-analysis skills, preferably in Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW
- Experience with data-acquisition systems, imaging systems, particle or flow measurement, or surface/process metrology is a plus
Required people skills
- Self-motivated, structured, and hands-on in laboratory and test-bench environments
- Strong analytical mindset with careful and reliable experimental working habits
- Comfortable working in interdisciplinary, industry-oriented teams
This 6-month internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of applied research, measurement technology, and industrial process development. You will contribute directly to the development of an integrated measurement framework supporting process understanding, optimization, and model validation.
