About Liom

Liom is a Swiss health‑tech startup dedicated to revolutionizing the field of personalized health monitoring. Our objective is to develop the first health wearable monitoring glucose non‑invasively. We will launch our wearable as a consumer product in the United States and Europe in 2028. Our team consists of over 35 staff, with deep expertise in product development, and the required engineering as well as scientific disciplines.

We are operating out of our lab facilities in Pfäffikon SZ, Switzerland.

Your mission

You will play a key role in transforming Liom's optical sensing technology into a robust, manufacturable product. Working at the intersection of optics, mechanics, manufacturing, and supplier development, you will define critical packaging, assembly, and industrialization strategies for our wearable sensing platform.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role. You will drive critical engineering decisions, oversee key development and industrialization activities performed by external partners, and personally contribute to the design, prototyping, and optimisation of our products.

  • Lead the development of opto‑mechanical architectures and packaging concepts, driving key decisions related to optical integration, assembly processes, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
  • Develop and refine mechanical designs, engineering documentation, and tolerancing strategies for optical modules and assemblies.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction to external development and manufacturing partners, ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost targets.
  • Work closely with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to mature and industrialize designs.
  • Provide technical leadership for DFM, DFA, and production readiness activities across the product lifecycle.
  • Design, build, test, troubleshoot, and optimise prototypes in collaboration with cross‑functional engineering teams.
  • Support supplier selection, technical reviews, prototyping activities, and manufacturing transfer efforts.
Your profile
  • MSc or equivalent industry experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience developing precision mechanical or opto‑mechanical products.
  • Proven track record of leading the development and industrialization of miniature optical, opto‑electronic, or precision‑engineered assemblies.
  • Deep understanding of optical mounting, alignment strategies, packaging, tolerancing, and assembly processes.
  • Strong understanding of DFM, DFA, and manufacturing processes for precision optical and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience leading technical development activities with external engineering, manufacturing, or industrialization partners.
  • Strong hands‑on engineering mindset with a willingness to personally design, prototype, assemble, and debug hardware.
  • Fluent in English and comfortable working in a fast‑paced startup environment.

Following skills are a plus:

  • Experience with consumer electronics, wearable devices, or medical devices.
  • Experience with micro‑optics, photonic packaging, spectroscopy systems, or optical sensors.
  • Familiarity with injection moulding, precision machining, optics manufacturing, and high‑volume manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with highly integrated optical and electronic assemblies.
