Design Manager

We are currently recruiting for an experienced M&E Design Manager to join a major data centre project in Zurich, Switzerland
.

The successful candidate will manage and coordinate the design delivery process across a technically complex project, working closely with clients, consultants, engineers, project management and specialist design teams.

This is a strongly M&E-focused position
, with an emphasis on electrical engineering, multidisciplinary coordination, design delivery and technical management.

This is not a CSA-focused Design Manager role.

• Manage design delivery from concept through detailed design, construction and completion.
• Develop and maintain Design Delivery Schedules.
• Coordinate internal engineers, designers and external consultants.
• Develop scopes of work and design deliverable schedules.
• Support the procurement and appointment of design consultants.
• Manage consultant performance, deliverables, programme and design fees.
• Review M&E design information for technical accuracy and constructability.
• Identify design gaps, clashes and coordination issues.
• Track design deliverables against project milestones.
• Implement recovery strategies where design slippage occurs.
• Manage design document control and design issue registers.
• Provide technical input into design development and value engineering.
• Lead design coordination meetings with clients, consultants and project teams.
• Manage and support engineers and design team members.
• Work within a BIM environment and coordinate multidisciplinary design information.

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related M&E discipline

• 5-7+ years' relevant experience
  .
• Strong M&E / electrical engineering background.
• Experience on data centre, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or large industrial projects
  .
• Proven experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
• Experience managing design programmes, deliverables, fees and costs.
• Experience managing engineers and direct reports.
• Strong understanding of design delivery and project management processes.
• BIM experience.
• Excellent communication, organisational and technical skills.
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.

The ideal candidate will have progressed from a hands-on electrical or mechanical trade background into engineering, design and ultimately design management
.

A trade background combined with a relevant engineering degree or further education would be considered a significant advantage.
