YOUR ROLE

As a Site Engineer (f/m/d) at our Zurich data centre, you will be a key contributor to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our mission-critical infrastructure. In this role, you will take ownership of maintenance and repair activities on complex electrotechnical and mechanical systems, ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards, operational procedures, and company values. You might also execute ad hoc technical projects as instructed.

You will coordinate and supervise subcontractors, execute routine inspections, manage incident responses, and ensure uninterrupted services in alignment with SLAs and internal benchmarks. Your role includes on-call responsibilities, risk mitigation, and driving site energy efficiency and process improvement.

You will coordinate and supervise subcontractors, execute routine inspections, manage incident responses, and ensure uninterrupted services in alignment with SLAs and internal benchmarks. Your role includes on-call responsibilities, risk mitigation, and driving site energy efficiency and process improvement. Additionally, you will act as the link between cross-functional departments including customer service, security, and third-party providers. Through technical expertise and structured documentation, you will actively support Zurich site performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Join Digital Realty as a Data Center Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuous, safe operation of one of Europe’s key data centres in Zurich. In this role, you contribute directly to powering the innovation of Digital Realty's global platform by maintaining the infrastructure that supports digital trust for enterprises worldwide.

What You Will Do
  • After the induction and training period, participate in a structured shift rotation comprising two days each of morning, afternoon, and night shifts, followed by 4 days of rest, with planned regular periods, ensuring continuous site operation.
  • Own the participation of shift coverage within a tightly integrated team, supporting seamless handover and minimizing downtime.
  • Engage regularly with Engineering Operations leadership, contributing insights to improve procedures and safety compliance.
  • Lead efforts to uphold electrical and mechanical system safety standards, supporting audits and safety permit implementations.
  • Participate in skill-building initiatives to develop expertise in electrical safety and compliance within a critical data centre environment.
  • Help maintain clear, up-to-date documentation and compliance records critical for operational and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence and proactive problem resolution.
  • Build strong relationships within the team, embodying Digital Realty's values of customer focus, teamwork, and results-driven performance.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • A candidate who thrives in ambiguity and is agile, with eagerness to contribute to a pioneering operational approach.
  • A technical background in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics or another industrial related area , preferably with recognized certification such as the Swiss EFZ diploma or equivalent, or a bachelor's degree related to engineering.
  • Willingness and resilience to work in shifts (including night shifts) and flexible rotation schedules.
  • Preferably 2-3 years of relevant experience in mission-critical operations and maintenance of large-scale electrotechnical and/or mechanical systems, with a passion for learning and growth. Data centre experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills in English (B2+);
    German language skills will be advantageous for thriving in the Zurich site culture.
  • A proactive problem-solver who embraces teamwork and places customer needs at the center of their work.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, test and measurement equipment, and routine infrastructure surveillance
