PhD Position:
Synthetic Chemistry for Lipid Nanoparticle-based Imaging Probes
We are looking for a PhD candidate to join our group in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences to workon the design and synthesis of imaging probes to functionalize lipid nanoparticles. Our group has diverse knowledge in various topics including organic synthesis, imaging, and nanotechnology and our strength lies in the synthesis of organic molecules for diverse applications in the field of bio- and nano-technology.
For this position, a project on the synthesis of imaging probes, targeting peptides and therapeutic molecules and covalent functionalization of the surface of lipid nanoparticles for various applications is envisioned.
Research Topics within Our Group:
- MRI and NIR probe for in vivo and in vitro imaging of diseases
- Chemical force spectroscopy and nanolithography by chemically functionalized AFM Tip
- Fullerene-based biomaterials
- Supramolecular complexation and self-assembly
You can find out more about our group on our website .
- Organic synthesis
- Structural characterization of organic molecules
- Lipid nanoparticle synthesis and characterization
- Various imaging applications
- Collaboration within our group and with other researchers
- Group responsibilities
- Teaching - practical labs or lecture courses
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparative synthetic organic chemistry. Experience with soft materials, photochemistry, imaging, and peptide chemistry are welcome but not essential
Profile- A highly-motivated student who has completed a Master's degree in chemistry or a similar field
- Able to work independently on your own project but also collaboratively with other scientists
- Solid background in organic synthesis
- High proficiency in oral and written English
- Preferred prior experience with nanoparticles and characterization, though not an essential requirement
- Access to ETH facilities for synthesis, characterization, and microscopy
- Interesting projects with opportunities for independent exploration
- Ability to broaden your knowledge through ETH courses in chemistry and related sciences
