Proteomics Laboratory Assistant 100%, Zurich, fixed-term Project background
The FGCZ Proteomics Unit supports internal and external research groups by offering services, training, and instrument access. The analytical portfolio includes identifying, characterizing and quantifying proteins in body fluids, tissues and cells. Together with the Bioinformatics team, the Proteomics Unit covers all steps from initial consultation, experimental design, sample preparation, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) data acquisition, data processing and data analysis.
The group is supported by IT and bioinformatics experts and by the Metabolomics and Genomics Units of the FGCZ to support multi-omics approaches.
- You will be part of an international team of specialists working in the FGCZ proteomics core facility
- You will be primarily supporting the team during the sample preparation and the data acquisition for a variety of mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflows aimed at the identification, characterization and quantification of peptides and proteins using LC-MS from various biological sources
- Examples of responsibilities are routine sample preparation methods such as in‑gel, on‑beads and in‑solution digestion, peptide desalting, evaluating and interpreting quality control features during and after data acquisition and basic data analysis workflows
- Furthermore, you will be responsible for the maintenance of different LC‑MS instrument platforms, and support practical organizational aspects of the proteomics laboratories. This position is initially foreseen as a two‑year contract
- Completed professional training as a chemistry or biology laboratory technician or, alternatively, bachelor in analytical chemistry, biology, or in a closely related field
- Wet lab experience in biochemistry and/or analytical chemistry
- Hands‑on experience with LC‑MS and/or other protein analysis techniques is an asset
- Organizational skills, with the flexibility to adapt to a wide range of analytical protocols in a highly dynamic environment. Attention to detail and adherence to SOPs
- Problem‑solving skills
- Effective and good written and oral communication skills in English are a must, knowledge of German is helpful
- Team player, ambitious, and motivated to learn and make a difference through proteomics and protein analysis
