Microcaps is an ETH Zurich spin-off founded in March 2019. Our unique technology allows us to produce highly precise and innovative microcapsules that empower materials to unlock new capabilities; all tailored to various markets from cosmetics to nutraceutical and pharma.

Our first commercial focus is a genuine breakthrough for the perfume industry:
alcohol‑free fine fragrances
. We already have our first products on the market with reputable brand partners and are now preparing global launches to establish Microcaps as the reference for next‑generation fragrance bases.

With our dedicated perfume factory being finalized in 2025, our mission for 2026 is clear:
make alcohol‑free fine fragrance available worldwide.

R&D Intern
- Microencapsulation Process Development (100%)

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and hands-onR&D Intern / Working Student to support the development of a novel microencapsulation process. You will work directly with our Innovationteam on the experimental development of core-shell capsules and contribute tounderstanding and optimizing the key process parameters controlling capsule formation, stability and quality. This position is particularly suited to astudent in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science or a related field, who enjoys experimental work and wants to gain practical experience inprocess development within a fast-moving startup environment.

The Impact

The development of new encapsulation technologies is an important part of Microcaps' innovation strategy. As an R&D Intern, you will contribute directly to accelerating the experimental development of a new encapsulation technology.

Your work will help us understand the relationships between formulation,process parameters and capsule properties, and support the transition from laboratory feasibility toward a robust and scalable process.

Depending on your background and performance,you will also have the opportunity to take on more responsibilities over time.

Your mission:
  • Prepare formulations, solutions and experimental equipment
  • Execution & documentation of lab trials
  • Investigate the influence of formulation and process parameters
  • Characterize capsules using optical microscopy and other relevant analytical methods
  • Assess process stability, capsule quality andreproducibility
  • Document experimental conditions and results ina structured and reliable manner
  • Analyze experimental results together with the Innovation team and contribute to defining subsequent experiments
This role is a good fit if you:
  • Are currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Process Engineering or a related field, in Switzerland
  • Have strong interest in experimental laboratory work
  • Are hands-onand curious
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic, process team-oriented & communicative environment
  • Are abletowork carefully and independently once trained
  • Have structured approach to experimental work and data documentation
  • Are comfortable working in a dynamic environment where experimental plans may evolve based onresults
  • Have work permit in Switzerland
  • Very good English(B2+) is a must
