What You'll Do
The Digital Human Research team at Epic Games is looking for an experienced research engineer, with expertise in 3D garment creation. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for digital humans and clothing, combined with experience in the fields of computer graphics, computer vision, geometry processing, and machine learning. You will develop and apply algorithms in the domain of human body and clothing capture, synthesis, modeling, rigging, tracking, and animation to help us build the next generation of digital humans.
In this role, you will
- Be part of the Digital Human Research team proving out new technologies to raise the bar of real-time digital humans and characters.
- Work directly with a team of researchers, artists, and engineers to learn all aspects of the character creation process from scanning and performance capture to animation and rendering.
- Develop novel Deep Learning-based architectures and algorithms for solving problems in human motion, appearance and behavior understanding as well as emulation in 3D characters.
- Help identify points of friction in our processes and tools and research new techniques to automate and improve the realism of the art team's work.
- Research and develop generative methods for modeling and animating digital humans.
- Stay well-informed on the latest research on digital character technologies.
What we’re looking for
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with computer graphics, computer vision, geometry processing techniques.
- Strong mathematical background.
- Understanding of mathematical optimization and modern machine learning concepts.
- MSC/Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- Strong programming skills in Python or C++.
- Experience with PyTorch or similar machine learning frameworks.

- Digital humans:
Face and body capture - Generative models
- Speech animation
- Style transfer and performance reenactment
Machine Learning / AI:
- Inverse rendering
- Neural rendering
- Autonomous agents
Computer Vision:
- 3D reconstruction and modeling
- Material reflectance capture and modeling
- Face and body detection and tracking
Qualification required for performance of works of the job position: VII - high education.
