Fresno Pacific University - Center for Professional Development offers online and on-campus professional development courses for Health & Physical Education (HPE) for K-12 teachers. These courses can be taken at any time - during school, the summer, winter break or spring break. These online and independent study HPE courses are available for teachers nationwide from California to New York and from North Dakota to Texas.
We offer the following Health & Physical Education courses and programs for K-12 teachers.
Health Education Courses:
HED 900 -- Lifelong Fitness Guide
This course will provide information on how to improve physical condition, increase energy and cope up with the stress of teaching. The course focuses on stress management, fitness & nutrition.
HED 901 -- Elementary Health Education
This course is designed to help students understand & learn living habits and skills. The course includes nutrition, first aid, mental health, applicable school screening tests, health & substance abuse, healthy school environment and other health issues that confront all elementary school teachers.
HED 902 -- Health & Teenager
This course is designed for better understanding of health issues faced by students. The course include ways to integrate health-related topics such as nutrition, wellness, weight control, alcohol and substance abuse and fitness into the curriculum.
HED 903 -- Weight Issues & its Effect on Health
This course is designed to understand the historic & consumer perspective of dieting. The course includes implementation of different diet routines and reviewing planned outcomes along with their associated medical implications.
HED 904 -- Childhood Obesity
The course focuses on the issues of child obesity.
HED 905 -- Health or Fitness on the Web
Course focuses on online approaches in teaching health and fitness.
Physical Education Courses:
PED 900 -- Golf
This course is designed to help teachers & coaches create an effective golf curriculum or program. The course includes basic and intermediate skills, etiquette, ways to overcome the psychological challenges of golf & rules of the game.
PED 901 -- Elementary Physical Education
Course includes topics such as curriculum planning, movement learning, class management, and legal liability. Also provide introductory & fitness activities and lead-up & lesson-focus games.
PED 905 -- Tennis
Course includes better understanding of skills and knowledge needed to effectively teach tennis
PED 906 -- Elementary Sports
This course is designed for elementary teachers to understand the vast world of children's activities. The course includes information on various countries represented, including geographic, historic, and cultural information.
PED 907 -- Outdoor Team Sports
This course will provide structure & information required to build quality outdoor team sports units. The course includes sports history, drills and practice routines, rules, strategies, and sport-specific physical conditioning exercises for flag football, softball and soccer.
PED 908 -- Individual Sports
The course provides information & structure required to build quality individual sports units. This course includes sport history, practice routines, rules, skills, strategies, physical exercises, and selection of proper equipment and attire for specific sport.
PED 909 -- Active Bodies & Healthy Minds
This course is aimed for classroom & physical education teachers who want to their students to be physically fit and active. The course includes practical activities & information on benefits of teaching physical exercises.
PED 914 -- Technology & Physical Education
Course includes how to use sport specific technologies such as fitness assessment devices, videos, pedometers & heart rate monitors in Physical education.
Special Education Course:
SED 903 -- Adaptive Physical Education: Inclusive Games
This course will assist teachers in modifying games, sports and physical activities to make them suitable for students with disabilities.
