TEFL / CELTA Teacher Training in The Hague

The BSN Language Centre, The Hague:
Located in The Hague, in the west of The Netherlands, The BSN Language Centre is the unique and dedicated language teaching wing of The British School in The Netherlands. We currently offer the Cambridge Assessment English CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course twice a year.

CELTA English Teacher Training Program:
• Part-time, face-to-face CELTA course offered twice a year from September-February and March-July.

• The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) is awarded by Cambridge Assessment English, part of the University of Cambridge, UK.

• The main focus of the course is on the basic techniques of English language teaching and their practical application in the classroom.

Course topics include:
- Classroom management
- Error correction techniques 
- Language analysis
- Teaching in different environments 
- Teaching new language 
- Phonology
- Using songs, video and technology in the classroom 

Written Assignments:
You complete four written assignments that focus on:

- Teaching language skills
- Reflecting on classroom teaching
- Analysing and responding to learner needs
- Analysing language for teaching purposes

Who is the CELTA course suitable for?
• CELTA is intended as an initial qualification for people with little or no previous teaching experience. It is therefore suitable for those looking to embark on a new career and also for those eager to upgrade their teaching skills and teach in a different context.

Who is eligible to apply for CELTA?
• Course participants may vary widely in experience, education and age. However, CELTA regulations require that: Candidates should be at least 20 years old at the start of the course, although exceptions can be made to this at the centre’s discretion.

• They must have a standard of education that would allow entrance to higher education in their country. They must have an awareness of language, and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables them to follow the course.

• Finally, they must also have the potential to develop into effective teachers. Acceptance onto the course is conditional upon successful completion of the application process, including an interview.
