About Our Homeschool Programs:
The Ohio Virtual Academy uses curriculum and services provided by K¹². Learning can happen at home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found. While attendance, teacher interaction, and daily lessons are conducted online, our lessons use physical materials and offline tools as well.

For high school, OHVA uses the K¹²9¹² program from K¹². Whether targeting a top-tier, 4-year university, a local community college, or an immediate career, OHVA prepares students to maximize their post-high school success through K¹².

Extensive School Support System:

OHVA also provides an extensive support system to both parents and students. In grades K-8, working closely with the teacher, the parent (or other responsible adult) serves as a “learning coach” to the child, helping to facilitate his or her progress and working to modify the pace and schedule as needed. At the high school level the adult is less involved, as students work at more of a collective pace with a class of students in conjunction with the teacher.

Each teacher is state licensed and trained in his or her specific subject area. In addition, monthly networking opportunities are provided through various events and outings, enabling the entire school community to keep in close contact.

How Do Students Interact Socially?

Throughout the year, students are invited to participate in school outings, field trips (e.g., to historical sites, museums, zoos), picnics, and other social events. We expect local clusters of students and parents to get together on a regular basis in their areas. We also are exploring new ways to interact socially using the powerful reach of the Internet. The online Family Directory provides a way for OHVA families to network with families in their region of the state. With online discussions and forums, new types of communities can be formed that are based not on geography and place but on shared interests.

Parent Testimonial:
"In her other school, [my daughter] was always lost in her Language Arts class. Now she understands very clearly the parts of speech and can identify them easily. I appreciate K¹² History as well. The way it's broken down into different books makes it easier to digest, rather than a huge book with tiny little words."
