Role and Responsibilities
- The Shop Technician
- Level 1 supports day-to-day machine shop operations by maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area while developing foundational machining skills under supervision. - Follow verbal instructions, written work instructions, drawings, procedures, and training requirements applicable to assigned work.
- Support Bulldog Services quality objectives and continual improvement efforts by following applicable QMS procedures and work instructions, including requirements aligned with API Q1 and ISO 9001:2015.
- Inspect work for obvious defects, protect parts from damage, and immediately report quality concerns or nonconforming conditions to the supervisor.
- Empty chip hoppers and dispose of chips and waste in designated containers.
- Keep the machine shop clean and orderly, including sweeping floors and cleaning work benches.
- Clean machines and surrounding areas to remove chips, debris, and excess material.
- Maintain shop supplies in their assigned locations and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
- Use common hand tools safely and correctly for assigned shop tasks.
- Learn to properly read and use calipers for basic measurements.
- Read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Handle measuring devices carefully and return tools to designated storage locations after use.
- Level 1:
- Demonstrate and follow machine shop safety practices at all times.
- Deburr, clean, and prepare parts as directed without damaging finished surfaces or critical features.
- Assist machinists and other team members with material handling, part movement, staging, cleanup, and other shop support tasks as assigned.
- Learn basic safe operation, setup support, and routine preventive maintenance for the HEM Saw.
- Learn basic mill operations under the direction of a qualified machinist or supervisor.
- Learn basic lathe operations under the direction of a qualified machinist or supervisor.
- Perform only the machine tasks for which training and authorization have been provided; report unusual noise, vibration, damage, or operating conditions immediately.
- Accurately and honestly complete required shop, safety, inspection, training, preventive maintenance, and production records within the required time frame.
- Report procedural noncompliance, equipment concerns, safety issues, or damaged tooling immediately to the supervisor.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with team members, supervisors, quality personnel, and other departments.
- Ask questions when instructions, measurements, drawings, or task requirements are unclear.
- Assist other team members in daily activities and job-related tasks as approved by management.
- Perform all job duties in the safest manner possible with a target goal of 100% accident-free and incident-free performance.
- Follow the Bulldog Services Safety Manual, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout expectations, machine guarding requirements, and all posted shop safety rules.
- Never operate machinery without required training, authorization, guards, and PPE.
- Professionally represent Bulldog Services through reliable work habits, accountability, respect for others, and care of company equipment and facilities.
- Protect confidential company, customer, technical, and business information in accordance with company policies and any applicable Non-Disclosure Agreement.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of hands while working in a machine shop environment.
- Lift and move materials or equipment in accordance with the company safety manual, up to 50 lbs without assistance when safe to do so.
- Work around machinery, metal chips, cutting fluids, noise, and other normal machine shop conditions while using required controls and PPE.
- Wear company-approved work clothing and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and other PPE designated for the task or area.
- Maintain clothing, hair, jewelry, and personal items in a manner that does not create an entanglement or machine-operation hazard.
- Normal schedule is Monday through Friday during established shop hours, with overtime or schedule adjustments as workload and business needs require.
