Job Overview

Construction maintenance and repair technician responsible for estimating, reading plans, preparing layouts, measuring, cutting, assembling materials, building foundations, installing walls, roofs, windows, doors, and supervising work at various commercial and residential sites.

• Prepare estimates of labor and material costs.
• Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements.
• Prepare layouts in conformance with building codes using measuring tools.
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
• Prepare tenders and quotations.
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
• Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware.
• Schedule and coordinate work at sites.
• Survey building locations and levels.
• Instruct apprentices and supervise other workers.
• Estimate costs and materials for projects.
• Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, and industrial plants.

• Education:
  
  Secondary (high school) graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
• Experience:
  
  2 to 3 years in maintenance and repair in construction.
• Skills:
  
  Accurate, client-focused, efficient interpersonal, excellent oral and written communication, judgment, reliability, team player, punctuality, and strong values and ethics.
• Equipment & Machinery
  
  Experience:
  
  Hand tools.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting heavy loads; combining sitting, standing, walking; works under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
