is currently recruiting Substation Electricians for projects in the Lower Mainland for Aecon Power Services Inc.

Position Overview

We are seeking highly skilled Substation Electricians to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-voltage electrical equipment within substations. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, safety standards, and the ability to work in challenging environments. Workers will need to be comfortable working in a live substation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment including control cabinets, transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, protective relays, reactor installation, and cable installation up to 2750 Kcmil.
  • Perform high-voltage terminations, cable splicing, and testing.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure reliability and compliance with standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults and implement corrective actions.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure adherence to CSA, IEEE, and local electrical codes and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers on substation upgrades and commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and test results.
Required Qualifications
  • Journeyman Electrician Certification (Red Seal preferred).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in high-voltage substation work.
  • Strong knowledge of protective relaying, SCADA systems, and control wiring.
  • Proficiency in high-voltage testing equipment (e.g., Megger, Doble, hipot testers).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety standards.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and travel as required.
  • Applicant will need to be able to obtain NERC certification through a background check.
Compensation
  • Journeyperson Electrician rate
  • Base Hourly Rate - $54.49
  • Vacation & Stat Holiday Pay (12%) - $6.54
  • Health & Welfare - $4.00
  • Group Retirement Savings Plan - $4.00
  • Training Trust Fund - $0.40
  • Apprentice Governance Council - $0.10
  • Total Wage Package (TWP) - $69.43/hr
