Overview
Entarian is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist to support NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS). NGS provides the framework for all positioning activities in the Nation, including surveying and reviewing surveys of thousands of U.S. airports for the FAA through the NGS Aeronautical Survey Program (ASP).
Job Duties- Work with NGS and FAA to understand strategic goals, regulations, specifications, and standards related to aeronautical surveys.
- Review and validate third‑party airport survey data for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to FAA standards.
- Document changes to runways and ensure the accuracy of airfields’ geoid models.
- Process field‑collected data and determine whether airfields meet necessary safety standards.
- Cross‑reference field‑collected survey data against FAA databases, GIS datasets, and legacy records to identify discrepancies.
- Interpret and apply FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300‑18B specifications to determine the acceptability of submitted airport survey data.
- Perform data reviews using GIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth Pro.
- Assist in developing strategic plans and concepts and keep abreast of new technologies and methods.
- Support database improvements or modernization efforts related to airport survey data management.
- Collaborate with team members to improve data review workflows and processes.
- Become a recognized expert in the professional aeronautical survey community in methodologies, techniques, and GIS fields.
Salary:
Approximately $80,000 – $89,000 per year.
Work will be performed remotely and in‑office. Approximately 50% telework permitted. Candidates should be within reasonable commuting distance to Silver Spring, MD.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Mathematics, Geodesy, related discipline, or equivalent.
- Six or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience using ESRI Arc Map Suite / ArcGIS Pro, Python, and databases.
- Familiarity with aeronautical survey methodologies, techniques, and GIS fields preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with sensitive or classified data.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident able to pass a background investigation to obtain security badge for applicable government facility.
