Job ContextSince January 2024, HI has been responding to Sudan’s crisis. HI’s joint multisectorial response in Gedaref State, implemented with a Sudanese partner NGO, is already providing physical and functional rehabilitation services in healthcare centres and at community level, as well as MHPSS services, including individual and group counselling. HI is further engaged at the humanitarian coordination level to mainstream disability inclusion throughout the humanitarian response.
HI is scaling up its response from both geographic and modalities/sectorial perspectives. In particular, HI has deployed emergency response teams in Darfur, to set up its operations and initiate its response in the western parts of Sudan. HI team is present in Darfur since December 2024, implementing inclusive humanitarian action, and basic needs activities (WASH and Food security).
Following the fall of El Fasher on October 2025 and the Exploratory Mission conducted during the period of time, HI is setting up a base and launching some operations in Emergency Physical Rehabilitation and Shared Operational Logistics via Atlas Logistique cell. The advertised vacancy is to be part of the team replacing the Opening Flying Team.
Your MissionUnder the responsibility of the Program Director, you, as the Area Manager, contribute within the country where you are based to the implementation of the mandate and the 10‑year strategy of Handicap International. You ensure optimal quality and impact of the projects implemented in the country, through a delegation system with appropriate control mechanisms.
You share with all HI managers the responsibility of a sound management and successful functioning of the global organization, through paradigm chain.
Your priorities will be to:
- Structure the base in terms of means and process (teams, premises, coordination, etc.).
- Launch and develop emergency intervention in the geographical perimeter while taking into consideration contextual changes.
Management of the team on‑site Mission 2:
Strategy and Steering
- Contribute to the development of the programme operational strategy, and to its implementation and annual monitoring.
- Implement the project part of the Programme’s Operational Strategy.

Operational Implementation
- Ensure the sound management and monitoring of projects under your responsibility.
- Keeping both potential opportunities and risks in mind, contribute to the monitoring and analysis done by the line manager, and propose mitigation measures where relevant.
- Develop HI’s external influence (forums, operational and strategic alliances, etc.) and the external representation of the organization (events, media) in his/her area of responsibility.
- Coordinate the teams in your area.
- Support the Program Director in monitoring security in their area and ensure adequate resources according to the context.
