Transportation Operations Supervisor

Location: Jackson, MS

Pay Rate:
Salary $50,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year

First Student is currently hiring for an Operations Supervisor. In this role you will focus on supervising day to day operations of our buses, schedule the maintenance and fueling of the buses, and enhance your skill set while contributing to a dynamic company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates and promotes a safe work environment at all times
  • Ensures drivers have the daily paperwork necessary to complete their routes and that completed charter paperwork is received by the Location Manager for processing
  • Coordinates field trips by assigning personnel and vehicles
  • Under the direction of the Location Manager, assists drivers with establishing route descriptions
  • Ensures drivers follow through with scheduled fueling and mechanical work
  • Observes safety practices of personnel and takes corrective action when necessary
  • Assists the Location Manager during training sessions and kick‑off meetings
  • Attends disciplinary meetings with the Location Manager
  • May interact with school officials on routine matters at smaller bus locations, may drive a bus on occasion if necessary, and assists the dispatcher when necessary
  • May manage small locations under the overall direction of the Location Manager
  • Ensures routes meet state, local and vendor requirements
  • Reviews time sheets prior to submission to payroll
Qualifications / Minimum Experience or Skills Required
  • 3–5 years’ experience in the transportation industry
  • Good supervisory skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Good interpersonal and computer skills
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to move about the office and in the surrounding company facility outside the office (e.g., bus parking lot), utilize standard office equipment, access filing systems/cabinets and communicate effectively in person or by telephone
  • Must be able to drive a company or personal vehicle to deliver training in multiple locations
  • Job is performed under temperature extremes and low‑level risk
  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, significant lifting, carrying, pulling and/or pushing, frequent stopping, kneeling and crouching
