GCU UK Ltd is delivering major Full Fibre (FTTP) infrastructure works across Scotland and is seeking experienced Cabling and Subduct Gangs to support ongoing build activity in Aberdeen
. This role forms part of large-scale fibre deployment programmes, helping to deliver future‑proof digital connectivity to homes and businesses.

The works will primarily involve sub‑duct installation, fibre cabling and associated civils activities across footpaths, carriageways and private land.

The Role

As part of a dedicated cabling or subduct gang, you will carry out installation of sub‑duct, fibre cabling and associated chamber works in line with project specifications and industry standards. You will be required to work safely on the public highway and in live environments, ensuring reinstatement works meet required standards. The role includes coordination with site supervisors and other gangs, accurate completion of job records and a strong focus on productivity, quality and safety.

What

we expect of you

We expect a strong, safety‑first approach to working in the highway and around live utilities, with the ability to consistently meet programme and quality requirements. You should be reliable, punctual and capable of working effectively as part of a gang, while maintaining a professional attitude when working around members of the public and local stakeholders. A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and travel within the Aberdeen area is essential, along with the ability to complete daily paperwork and digital job records accurately.

What

you will bring

You will bring proven experience within the UK telecommunications sector, preferably on FTTP or fibre‑to‑the‑premises projects. Essential qualifications include NRSWA Street Works accreditation for relevant operative units, CAT and Genny training in accordance with HSG
47 for utility avoidance, and recognised telecoms safety accreditations such as Smart Awards for underground working. Hands‑on experience in sub‑duct installation, fibre cabling and chamber work is critical for this role.

Desirable experience includes working knowledge of fibre blowing or pulling operations, and experience on large‑scale urban or semi‑urban fibre builds. Additional civils or plant tickets such as CPCS or NPORS will be beneficial. A full UK driving licence, good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a gang are also required.
