Maintenance Technician

We're looking for someone to help care for Jersey’s historic castles, forts and landscapes as a hands on Maintenance Technician.

You’ll use your all‑round maintenance and construction skills to deliver repairs, preventative maintenance and heritage‑sensitive work across public sites. We’re looking for someone practical, proactive and team‑minded, confident with tools, safety‑aware and keen to learn traditional methods. Jersey Heritage acts as Guardian for a large number of the Island’s Historic structures including Castles, Forts, Guardhouses and Landscapes. As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a vital part in helping preserve and conserve them for generations to come.

This is a hands‑on, varied role for someone who takes pride in their craft, enjoys solving problems, and thrives as part of a supportive team. You will bring strong all‑round construction skills and a willingness to learn heritage‑specific techniques, while working across sites that are open to the public.

• Carry out day‑to‑day maintenance and repairs across a wide range of heritage properties, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, decorating, and general building tasks.
• Deliver both planned preventative maintenance and responsive repairs, ensuring work respects the character and needs of historic structures.
• Support the Head of Property to keep buildings safe, functional, and welcoming for staff and visitors.

• Identify and report safety hazards promptly, taking action where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, including statutory checks.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and complete risk assessments when required.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and machinery are properly maintained and used safely.

• Use methods and materials sympathetic to the historic fabric of the buildings.
• When working outdoors, take care to safeguard wildlife and natural habitats.
• Contribute to the long‑term stewardship of Jersey’s heritage sites.

• Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and visitors.
• Engage positively with members of the public who visit and interact with our sites.
• Represent Jersey Heritage with professionalism and pride.

• Strong all‑round maintenance and construction skills.
• Practical experience in building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, decorating, and general repairs.
• Confident using and maintaining a wide range of tools and equipment.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements in maintenance and construction environments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a dispersed team.
