About The Role
The Rigging Foreman is responsible for the safe supervision and execution of all lifting operations, ensuring full compliance with LOLER and BS 7121 by controlling personnel, equipment, and activities in accordance with approved lift plans, maintaining certified lifting gear, enforcing exclusion zones, and stopping any work that deviates from established safe systems of work.
Responsibilities- Lead and supervise rigging teams during lifting, hoisting, and movement of heavy equipment
- Support the planning and coordinate lifting operations in line with approved lift plans and risk assessments
- Support the Appointed Person in site‑specific lift planning adjustments where conditions change
- Ensure compliance with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) and PUWERrequirements
- Ensure all lifting operations are planned, supervised, and executed in accordance with BS 7121 (Safe Use of Cranes)
- Review and implement lift plans, ensuring they are suitable, risk‑assessed, and authorised by the Appointed Person (A61)
- Verify that lifting operations are categorised correctly (e.g., basic, standard, complex) and controlled accordingly under BS 7121
- Ensure method statements (RAMS) reflect actual site conditions, crane capabilities, and rigging configurations
- Confirm that crane configurations, ground bearing pressures, and load charts are understood and adhered to bythe team
- Act as the on‑site focal point ensuring lifting operations are carried out under proper Crane Supervisor /Appointed Person direction
- Direct and supervise Slinger/Signallers (A40) to ensure correct selection and use of lifting accessories, proper slinging techniques and load security and clear and standardised signalling (in line with BS 7121-1 Annex hand signals)
- Ensure that all lifting team members understand their roles and responsibilities under CPCS categories
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ensure team adherence to site HSE procedures
- Liaise with Crane Operators, Appointed Persons, and Site Management
- Monitor rigging equipment condition and ensure inspections/certification are up to date
- Identify hazards and implement control measures to reduce risk
- Oversee load handling, slinging, signalling, and rigging techniques
- Strong leadership and team management
- In‑depth knowledge of lifting plans, load calculations, and rigging methods
- Excellent understanding of UK HSE regulations
- Clear communication and coordination skills
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making under pressure
- Time Served / Modern Apprenticeship approved by City & Guilds or NVQ / SVQ Level 3, and/or relevant and recognised technical qualification approved by an appropriate awarding body, or appropriate 10 years’ experience in discipline/trade
- CPCS A61 Appointed Person Lifting Operations Blue Card Competent
- Rigging Loft Management/Lifting Gear Examiner
- CCNSG Safety Passport
- Working at Height Unit 2
- IOSH Managing Safely in the Engineering Construction Industry (preferred) OR IOSH Managing Safely in Construction
- NOCN/CPCS A62 Crane/Lift Supervisor (Red or Blue Card) (preferred)
- NOCN/CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaler (Red or Blue Card) (preferred)
- IPAF 3a + 3b PAL Card (preferred)
- CPCS MEWP A25a + A25b (preferred)
- CPCS A17 – Telescopic Handler (preferred)
- Full Driving License (preferred)
- 5+ years in rigging operations, including supervisory experience
- Thorough Knowledge of LOLER Lift Plan requirements
- Previous Experience in a similar role
- Exposure to people management
- Understanding of relevant construction industry codes and standards relevant to the role
- Excellent written and spoken English
