Position Summary

Engineering Technician II (S) – NC Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Administration, Division of Highways.
Position Number:
Grade: NC09.
This role performs roadway/structure inspection work for the Aberdeen Resident Engineer’s Office.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Project inspection of moderate projects.
  • Supervision of lower‑level technicians.
  • Assist a survey party as needed.
  • Complete daily dairies, sample cards, asphalt reports, NPDES reports, material received forms, survey notes, and monthly estimates.
  • Adapt to additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • General knowledge of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories.
  • Experience with contract administration, including knowledge of contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Experience performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
  • Working knowledge of computer equipment (iPads, desktop), software (HiCams and SharePoint), and mathematical functions.
  • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or related curriculum from an accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician‑level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction‑site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain.
  • Moderate physical activity required: walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Must be able to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Safety toe shoes required.
  • Offer contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post‑offer employment evaluation.
Employment Details
  • Salary range: $41,206 – $72,113.
  • Grade: NC09.
