General Description

Under the supervision of the Engineering Director, supervises Transmission and Distribution Engineering employees. Direct, coordinate, and develop electrical transmission and distribution system design, planning, and related engineering activities.

Status: Full-time, Exempt, Non-Represented

Work Week: Monday – Friday

Working Environment: Work is performed in the office Monday – Friday. Remote work is not available for this position.

Supervisor: Engineering Director

Monthly Salary Range: Minimum $12,108 – Market Midpoint $15,742 – Maximum $19,675

* New hires typically receive between minimum and market midpoint, after considering individual experience, internal equity, and market.

Engineering Supervision, Management, and Oversight
  • Coordinate Engineering activities with other District departments.
  • Participate in the hiring, training, supervision, development, and evaluation of assigned Engineering personnel.
  • Evaluate and maintain written documentation of employee performance, training, development, and goals.
  • Ensure assigned engineers are appropriately trained and provided with necessary tools, resources, and information to perform engineering work safely and effectively.
  • Organize, prioritize, assign, review, and approve engineering work for accuracy, efficient delivery of service, cost-effectiveness, and conformance with District standards, policies, and applicable requirements.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and may design electrical system improvements to support system safety, reliability, power supply, and operational needs.
  • Provide technical assistance for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of the District’s electrical transmission and distribution system.
  • Supervise the preparation of specifications, bid evaluations, and recommendations for contractor and consultant bids and proposals related to assigned engineering, equipment, and construction projects.
  • Coordinate activities and work with contractors and consultants on design, construction, and other assigned projects.
Engineering Planning, Design, Standards, and Technical Support
  • Manage the planning and design of District transmission and distribution engineering functions.
  • Coordinate and supervise system planning studies, technical studies, calculations, evaluation tests, reports, and other analyses related to transmission and distribution engineering activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate work related to rights-of-way, franchises, easements, permits, and other requirements for District transmission and distribution facilities.
  • Recommend acquisition of new devices, apparatus, and equipment to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, economy, standardization, maintainability, and performance of the District’s electrical system.
  • Understand, apply, explain, enforce, ensure compliance with, and assist with the development of District engineering, material, construction, electrical service, policy, procedure, and practice standards.
  • Use, monitor, and report on work performed through the District’s engineering work production systems and applicable technical computer programs.
  • Participate in material forecasting, planning processes, and asset management.
Administrative, Customer, and Organizational Support
  • Interpret and apply the District’s rate schedules and policies for different classes of service and line extensions.
  • Investigate and respond to customer questions or complaints and ensure they receive prompt and courteous attention, including power quality concerns.
  • Assist in preparing the annual District capital improvement and operating budgets, and in preparing and maintaining a multi-year capital improvement program.
