Substitute Spanish Translator
Job DescriptionThis position acts as a Spanish translator between the school and parents/students. The position may also perform a variety of routine clerical and office tasks in support of teachers and other district staff.
Responsibilities- Act as bilingual interpreter (possibly in a variety of languages depending on the need). Facilitate effective communication between students, their families and the schools during conferences, meetings and other activities.
- Attend trainings as needed.
- Work flexible hours based on needs of students and their families which may include evening activities.
- May assist teachers and/or other educational staff in conducting home visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Fluency in Spanish or other various language(s), both spoken and written required.
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English usage.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and community service providers.
- Desired personal characteristics including flexibility, enthusiasm and compassion.
- Experience working with families with low socioeconomic status.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- FBI and Washington State Patrol background clearance required.
- May be required to complete training in First Aid and CPR as required by the District.
- Washington State Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Access to reliable transportation.
