General Description

Under the supervision of the Operations Director, the Line Superintendent supervises overhead and underground line operation, construction, and maintenance ensuring efficient and safe use of resources in the most cost-effective manner.

This position requires ten (10) years of directly related electric utility experience and a valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Preferred qualifications include Journey-level certification; three (3) years of experience in a lead, foreman, or supervisory capacity; valid Washington State traffic control card; and valid First Aid/CPR card. Status: Full-time, Exempt, Non-Represented

Work Week: Work is performed on site Monday – Friday. Remote work is not available for this position.

Reports to: Operations Director

Monthly Salary Range: minimum $12,108, market target midpoint $15,742, maximum $19,675

*New hires typically receive between minimum and market midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity, and market.

Line Department Management and Supervision
  • Plans, organizes, communicates, coordinates, coaches, and supervises line crews in operation, construction, and/or maintenance work for safe, effective and efficient performance.
  • Assures efficient scheduling and assignment of work, evaluates personnel, and makes recommendations regarding the need for contractual assistance.
  • Visits job sites to: pre-field work sketches; evaluate work in progress; advise, counsel, and/or consult with Crew Coordinator and Crew Foreman on more complex projects and emergency repair situations; inspect completed work for compliance with District Construction Standards.
  • Works with engineering on accuracy and completeness of work sketches adhering to District Construction Standards.
  • Participates in pre-construction meetings and coordinates with Crew Coordinator, engineering, local, state, and city agencies, and other areas as necessary.
  • Coordinates activities with Fleet Maintenance, Meter, Substation, System Dispatch, Stores, and other areas as required. This includes scheduling equipment and vehicle maintenance, meter problems and supply, tree trimming, field switching problems, etc.
  • Monitors current line construction practices, standards, tools, and equipment; and makes recommendations for change/modification as appropriate.
  • Responds in a professional manner to questions, comments or concerns from employees and the public regarding District and line department responsibilities, activities, and work issues.
  • Enforces safe work practices in cooperation with the Safety Department; participates in regular safety meetings; assists in resolving safety problems; participates in safety or accident investigations; works with the Safety and Environmental Director to maintain all required records and documentation; and conduct safety audits as required for compliance with the District’s safety program and state and federal laws.
  • Participates in call duty for coordinating work during other than regular work hours.
  • Assists in supervision and staffing during major outages to coordinate the District’s restoration activities.
Line Department Administrative Activities
  • Monitors industrial injuries, property damage claims, and accidents in an effort to reduce their occurrence.
  • Checks, approves, and routes purchase invoices and time sheets noting proper budgetary codes and accountability.
  • Recommends, coordinates, and approves the purchase of authorized tools, materials, and supplies as needed, maintaining high standard equipment within the budgetary allowance.
  • Participates in the update and development of departmental protocols and practices.
  • Identifies and assures proper training for all employees and maintain employee performance records as required.
