OverviewThe Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) seeks highly motivated individuals for the positions of Correctional Officer 1 and/or 2 at Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC). SCCC operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On-call/intermittent positions have no minimum hour guarantee.
Facilities and CustodyStafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC) is a 1,936-bed multi-custody facility on a 210-acre site. Custody levels range from Maximum to Medium and Long-Term Minimum. SCCC emphasizes programs and practices that reduce recidivism while maintaining security and community safety.
ResponsibilitiesIn an adult correctional facility, Correctional Officers provide safety and security, control and monitor movements of incarcerated individuals, and ensure the institution operates in accordance with department methods and procedures. Officers are expected to be positive role models and support rehabilitation as part of preparing individuals for successful re-entry into communities. Overtime is an essential function of this position. Officers will complete required training, including the Correctional Worker Core (CWC) six-week academy, and ongoing on-the-job training.
QualificationsRequired (CO1/CO2):
- Graduation from high school or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- The legal (Constitutional) right to carry a firearm
To qualify at the Corrections and Custody Officer 2 (CO2) level:
- One year of experience as a Department of Corrections (DOC) Corrections and Custody Officer, including successful completion of the CORE (Academy) and the Correctional Officer Field Training Program; or
- One year of experience as a Correctional Officer in adult or juvenile corrections with security functions equivalent to a DOC Corrections and Security Officer 2.
Pre-employment process includes drug testing and psychological evaluation.
On-Call DetailsOn-call staff may work an average of 32-40 hours per week with no minimum hour guarantee. All correctional officers receive a benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid sick leave, holiday pay, paid vacation) if they work at least 20 hours per week.
