Overview

Family Support Specialist – Aberdeen, WA. The clinical team works in the homes of families, the community, and an office site. This position is based at the FBH Aberdeen site and focuses on individualized, evidence‑based services delivered in the child and family's home and community.

We provide family‑oriented behavioral health care for children, youth and families, primarily in their own homes and community. Our enthusiastic clinical teams help children and youth remain safely in their own home, restore hope, provide intensive mental health services and supports, and strengthen family unity.

• Starting range: $31.50 – $35.04 per hour
• Language stipend: $100–200 per pay period for Spanish, English or other languages (based on proficiency and need)

• Act as a first responder, providing direct crisis response, de‑escalation, emergency supervision, and redirection of children and youth experiencing behavioral crises in their home, school, and community.
• Participate in clinical intake observation and assessment of child/youth across home, school, and community settings, providing observations to the team for safety and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with an assigned clinician to identify and support consumer access to physical health and substance abuse treatment services available in the community.
• Participate in clinical decision‑making for high‑risk youth, contributing to individualized treatment plans that outline supervision and assessment of current mental health and safety needs.
• Implement prescribed behavioral strategies and treatment services to high‑risk children and youth, modeling and teaching social behavior, self‑protection skills, and coping skills such as anger management, frustration tolerance, and socialization.
• Complete family and behavioral health assessments with youth and parent, including CANS and SNCD, and assist with CALOCUS when required.
• Assess family needs for community resources, ensuring safety and recovery‑oriented treatment, and coordinate with Medicaid‑funded providers to connect families to needed resources.
• Analyze and assess home environment, including safety sweeps for children and youth with suicidal ideation or other high‑risk safety concerns.
• Gather child and youth intake information and determine medical eligibility for services, demonstrating understanding of Medicaid requirements and State Access to Care Standards.
• Deliver direct therapeutic services including evidence‑based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, customized to each youth and family's unique characteristics and treatment goals.
• Coordinate healthcare with families, primary care physicians, and specialists to support integrated medical and behavioral health services.
• Use Motivational Interviewing techniques to maintain a strengths‑based focus on the child, youth, and family.
• Plan treatment sessions using the “Practice Wise” manual and provide direct services in the home and community.

• 21 years or older per DSHS requirements.
• Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, human development, or related field; or Associate degree with three years of experience serving children and/or families in mental health, social services, education, etc.
• Eligible to become an Agency Affiliated Counselor with WA State (HIV/AIDS required).
• Proof of a negative TB test within the past 12 months.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Availability for flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
• Ability to make visual safety and well‑being assessments of family home conditions and crisis situations.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
