Ashtead Technology are looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our team in Turriff and play a key role in supporting the delivery, maintenance, and readiness of heavy equipment, ensuring assets are maintained to the highest standards and available to meet operational and project requirements.
This is a hands‑on role that combines technical expertise with proactive planning, fault finding, and continuous improvement. You'll be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, testing, and troubleshooting equipment while supporting day‑to‑day workshop activities and wider project delivery.
What You’ll Be Doing- Carry out maintenance, refurbishment, and upgrades to assets, ensuring equipment is fit for purpose and ready for use.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues, supporting effective fault resolution across the team.
- Ensure all maintenance, repair, and upgrade documentation is completed accurately and on time in line with procedures.
- Assist with FAT and function testing of diesel and electrical power packs in zoned and safe areas, as required.
- Install, assemble, and test mechanical equipment, including new build assets, in line with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Plan work proactively, ensuring materials, parts, and tooling are available to maintain workflow and avoid delays.
- Train, mentor, and support apprentices, promoting good working practices and maintaining high standards within the team.
- Monitor and maintain tools and equipment, reporting any damage, defects, or issues immediately.
Liaise with the department supervisor to ensure work scopes are delivered in line with project requirements and timelines.
- Good Secondary Education, HNC or equivalent in Engineering is preferred or completion of a recognised engineering / trade apprenticeship.
- Experience of working in a similar workshop environment.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of and experience working with heavy machinery is preferred.
- Self‑motivated with good attention to detail and ability to use own initiative.
- A good communicator with ability to work well in a team and while under pressure.
