Abilene Public Schools (USD #435), Abilene, KS, is currently seeking a PreK Classroom Paraprofessional/Aide.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Excellent organizational and academic skills
- Student centered;
Demonstrated success in working with students - Excellent collaborative/teaming skills
- Energetic, creative, innovative, flexible
- Excellent interpersonal skills
The Teacher Aide assists the Instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the Teacher Aide works closely with the staff and administration to support students.
Essential Functions- Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
- Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual educational needs of students.
- Ensure all activities conform to District guidelines.
- Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- Be flexible as schedules and daily activities may change.
- Operate all classroom equipment appropriately as required.
- Work to implement the vision and mission of the District.
- Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, turning, and reaching.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
- Prepare for classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
- Work with small groups of students to practice skills introduced by the teacher.
- Assist individual children in need of special attention.
- Provide support for students according to the IEP (Individualized Educational Plan).
- Complete necessary training as related to the paraprofessional responsibilities.
- Perform clerical duties as required.
- Set up audiovisual equipment.
- Assist teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as serving snack and assisting students with toileting and clothing routines.
- Observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
- Keep student and personnel information and records confidential.
- Implement and follow all District health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Principal or Teacher.
