Job DescriptionAbilene Public Schools, in Abilene, KS, is currently seeking a van driver, primarily for transporting 1 to 4 students to Salina in the morning and transporting from Salina to Abilene in the afternoon Monday through Friday. Although the windshield time is significantly less, the driver will be paid 2 hours every driving shift.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employmentoffer is made). Complete state-required physical examination for Bus Drivers(after employment offer is made).
- Meet all State requirements for Bus Drivers, including Defensie Driving, CPR and First Aid Certification
- At least one year experience in driving some type of motor vehicle (which may be a private automobile), including experience throughout each of the four seasons.
- Successfully complete behind-the-wheel training.
- Desire to continue career improvements by enhance skills and job performance.
- Ability to provide clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure studentsbenefit from District programs and activities.
- Ability to ensure all activities conform to State school transportation guidelines.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and the community.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.
- Ability to operate all vehicles and equipment as necessary.
- Ability to implement and follow the vision and mission of the District.
- Requires prolonged sitting.
- Requires turning, and reaching.
- Requires driving skills, including ability to operate vehicle at night or early before sunrise.
- Must work indoors and outdoors during the school year.
- Ability to implement and follow all Kansas school transportation regulations.
- Ability to implement all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
- Ability to maintain discipline when students are in the van or on the bus.
- Ability to report those students who do not obey rules to the proper authority.
- Ability to keep assigned vehicleclean.
- Ability to keep to assigned schedule.
- Ability to check van or busbefore each operation for mechanical defects.
- Ability to notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Ability to discharge students only at authorized stops.
- Ability to exercise responsible leadership and good judgment when on out-of District school trips.
- Transport only authorized students.
- Ability to report all accidents and complete required reports.
- Ability to enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
- Ability to implement and follow all District health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Transportation.
