Job Summary

The General Superintendent is the overall manager on a large and/or complex project. The General Superintendent ensures that all contracted work is developed, implemented, installed and managed in accordance with the Company’s requirements, including but not limited to safety, quality, management and financial performance. All aspects of the assigned project must be carried out efficiently with respect to staffing, material and financial management, customer care and delivery goals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruit, hire, train, manage, supervise, promote, discipline and discharge project staff as necessary.
  • Manage all human resources issues per Company policies and procedures; complete performance ratings, promotions and pay recommendations.
  • Act as senior company liaison for operational interface with customer representatives.
  • Plan, manage, monitor and maintain project profitability to achieve Company goals.
  • Ensure deadlines are met per customer requirements.
  • Distribute workload, maintain staffing levels and monitor customer delivery and job installation progress.
  • Ensure successful job completion, productivity and project budget compliance.
  • Review job cost postings for accuracy and completeness; handle invoices, collections and financial reporting.
  • Complete all IES and project paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders and other required documents; ensure Job Closing Packages meet standards.
  • Perform quality checks; prevent outages; conduct daily job walks to ensure quality; prepare red‑lined as‑built drawings.
  • Serve as main on‑site customer contact for questions and concerns; attend facility and construction meetings when required.
  • Perform work consistently demonstrating detailed technical knowledge; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Review and monitor operational processes for accuracy, completeness, and efficiency (estimating, purchasing, invoicing, warehousing, scheduling and reporting).
  • Develop, redesign and implement process improvements as required.
  • Collaborate with the Training Department to monitor quality and safety issues; actively promote safety as the first priority.
  • Lead assigned operations meetings and training sessions.
  • Manage tools and truck inventory/maintenance.
  • Complete any other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to develop processes and best practices.
  • High skill level in interpreting blueprints, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Ability to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed.
  • Capability to learn and teach the Company and customer project management systems.
  • Work at heights, off a ladder, in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb.
  • Stand and walk on large job sites regularly.
  • See and distinguish different colors, read small print and recognize audible signals.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements

  • Prefer a minimum of five (5) years’ supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years as a Lead Communications Technician or similar position.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in telecommunications or a related technical or construction field.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Minimum driving standards met.
  • Demonstrated ability to define a project, create scope, estimate, develop tasks and manage completion.
  • Use of trade tools: punch tool with 110 block & 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt‑ohmmeter, 4‑pair continuity tester, 5‑gang punch tool.
