Pay Range: 85/hour

Travel Benefits: Company vehicle provided; fuel reimbursed with receipts; home travel every 6 weeks ($600)

Duration: 20-month contract assignment

The Planet Group is currently seeking a Civil/Structural Subject Matter Expert – Data Center Construction for a large‑scale mission‑critical data center construction project. Qualified candidates must have strong experience supporting large industrial, hyperscale, mission‑critical, or data center construction projects with deep knowledge of civil and structural scopes including foundations, concrete, steel, underground utilities, sitework, QA/QC, inspections, and contractor coordination.

This role will serve as a field‑based technical expert supporting construction execution, quality, schedule, and coordination efforts across civil and structural disciplines.

Job Description

The Civil/Structural Subject Matter Expert will provide technical leadership and field support for civil and structural construction activities on a large‑scale data center project. This individual will work closely with construction managers, contractors, engineers, inspectors, and client representatives to ensure work is installed safely, correctly, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, codes, and project requirements.

  • Provide civil and structural subject matter expertise supporting data center construction activities.
  • Review civil and structural drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, field changes, and construction documentation.
  • Support field teams with technical guidance related to sitework, grading, drainage systems, foundations, structural steel, anchor bolts, connections, roadway and site infrastructure.
  • Perform regular field walks and inspections to verify installation quality, identify deficiencies, and support corrective action.
  • Coordinate with general contractors, civil contractors, structural steel contractors, engineers, inspectors, and owner representatives.
  • Identify constructability concerns, design conflicts, and field issues impacting safety, quality, schedule, or cost.
  • Support QA/QC activities including punch lists, deficiency tracking, corrective action follow‑up, and turnover readiness.
  • Review inspection reports, concrete testing documentation, compaction reports, welding inspections, bolting inspections, and survey information.
  • Assist with construction sequencing, logistics planning, temporary works, crane access, and site coordination.
  • Participate in project meetings, technical reviews, schedule discussions, and field issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, commissioning, and safety teams to support successful data center delivery.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in civil, structural construction, construction management, engineering, inspection, or field leadership roles.
  • Previous experience supporting data center, hyperscale, mission‑critical, industrial, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, utility, or large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil and structural construction practices, including earthwork, grading, drainage, foundations, concrete, structural steel, and site infrastructure design.
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, rebar drawings, specifications, and construction details.
  • Experience working directly with contractors, engineers, inspectors, and owner representatives.
  • Strong QA/QC and field inspection experience.
  • Ability to identify construction issues and drive practical field solutions.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working onsite in an active construction environment with significant field time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with large concrete/foundation packages and structural steel erection.
  • Background as a Civil Engineer, Structural Engineer, Construction Manager, Superintendent, Quality Manager, Inspector, or Owner’s Representative.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, or similar platforms.
  • PE license, ICC certification, ACI certification, AWS/CWI certification, or related credentials preferred.
