Principal Construction Project Manager – Colocation Infrastructure Construction Delivery
The Data Center Infrastructure Construction team at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is committed to delivering state‑of‑the‑art data‑center facilities at scale and pace. This role leads end‑to‑end construction projects with colocation providers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Location and RelocationAbilene, TX – Must live in the area no more than one month after starting. Relocation assistance is available. Full time with full Oracle benefits.
Key Responsibilities- Project Oversight:
Lead and manage the construction of data centers by colocation providers, ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. - Risk Evaluation:
Develop a deep understanding of the project to evaluate risk profiles associated with timely delivery, address gaps in risk identification and mitigation, and inform the business of potential impacts. - Risk Management:
Develop mitigation strategies for major project risks to ensure project success. - Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and colocation providers, facilitating clear and effective communication. - Schedule Management:
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, coordinating with colocation providers to ensure timely delivery of milestones. - Tenant Fit Out Integration:
Work closely throughout design, construction, and commissioning to fully coordinate and integrate the separate scope of tenant fit out projects with the DCIB teams leading these efforts. - Quality Assurance:
Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure all construction activities meet design specifications and industry standards. - Design Coordination:
Collaborate with design teams to ensure that construction activities align with the approved design plans and specifications. - Compliance:
Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards. - Provide ongoing colocation provider evaluation input for continuous improvement.
- Regular site walks to ensure schedule, coordination, and quality throughout the life of the project.
- Strong knowledge of base building data center construction – civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing.
- Project management for startup and commissioning phases of major data center projects.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities to address complex challenges in a fast‑paced construction environment.
- Strong understanding of data center design, construction, and operational requirements, with a focus on cutting‑edge technologies and sustainability.
- Proven expertise in managing large‑scale data center construction projects from inception to completion.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to mentor and inspire a diverse team of project managers, engineers, and construction professionals.
- Proficiency in creating, managing, and optimizing project budgets.
- Ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Extensive experience selecting, negotiating, and managing contracts with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
- In‑depth knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies to ensure compliance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in construction project management, focusing on data center or colocation infrastructure.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in data center operations, focusing on mechanical or electrical systems operations, change management processes, and integrated systems operations.
- Full‑time onsite position in Abilene, TX – must live in the area.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large‑scale construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, quality control, and design coordination.
- Strong understanding of data center operations, change management, and integrated systems operations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
