Every single day, the American Red Cross helps people in emergencies. Whether it’s one displaced family, thousands of disaster victims, or providing care and comfort to an ill or injured service member or veteran or support to a military family member or providing blood to hospitals, our vital work is made possible by people like you. It is through the time and care of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things.

• Provide regular content for the "Red Alert" blog. Blog posts are typically 300-500 words and assigned by the Communications team each month.
• Write human interest stories that highlight the work of volunteers, leaders, donors, disaster victims, etc. Feature stories are typically 500-1,000 words and may require telephone interviews or face-to-face interviews.
• Identify supporting visuals for blog and feature stories.
• Work independently to find unplanned content related to Red Cross to share on the blog
• Interview affected families, obtaining a story and signed information release form for each interview
• Submit stories to the public affairs desk
• May be asked to shoot photos with your smart phone if a photographer isn’t available
• Bloggers/Writers may be asked to send a photo or one-take video back from an event or a scene to be used immediately on social media sites
• During times of disaster, writers should be able to navigate difficult terrain, volunteer at odd-hours
