SUMMARY/SCOPE: The Art Departmentseeks to hire multiple student workers (art majors only) for the upcoming Fall term to support departmental operations, exhibitions, and visualcommunications. These positions are structured as applied professional learning experiences that complement academic coursework while supporting the daily function and public-facing work of the department.

Student workers are assigned defined, task-based responsibilities aligned with departmentalworkflows and professional standards. Positions emphasize stewardship,communication, reliability, and collaboration, rather than passive presenceor monitoring.

Applicants may be considered for one or more functional areas based on skills, interests, and departmental needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Depending on assigned role, responsibilities may include:

General Departmental& Facility Support
  • Assist with opening classrooms and departmental spaces as scheduled
  • Support general studio and facility readiness, including resetting spaces, light cleaning, and organization
  • Assist with gallery, exhibition, and event setup or breakdown under supervision
  • Carry out task-based requests from faculty, staff, or lead student assistants
  • Observe and report space, facility, or equipment concerns using established procedure
Design, Media, and Communications Support (Design-Focused Roles)
  • Assist with graphic design tasks using department templates and standards
  • Prepare digital graphics for screens, email communications, and approved platforms
  • Assist with documentation of exhibitions, events, and student work
  • Support supervised management of department social media accounts (primarily Instagram, secondarily Facebook), including:
  • Drafting posts
  • Preparing images and captions
  • Scheduling content for review
  • Organize and archive design and media files according to departmental standards
All design and social media content is reviewed and approved prior to posting.

Student workers do notmake independent policy, branding, or publishing decisions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required:
  • Current enrollment as an art major
  • Good academic standing
  • Ability to balance work responsibilities with academic priorities
Preferred (role-dependent):
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or In Design
  • Basic understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, and composition
  • Interest in exhibitions, gallery operations, design, or visual communication
Prior professional experience is not required; training is provided.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to move safely throughout studios, classrooms, offices,and gallery spaces
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry materials consistent with exhibition and studio support tasks
  • Ability to lift and move light to moderate equipment or materials,with assistance as needed
  • Ability to use standard office and design equipment (computer,keyboard, camera, basic tools)
