Under general supervision, perform a wide range of customer service duties, sales, and support functions in Guest Services at the Abilene Zoo. Provide administrative support to the Guest Service Managers and Assistant Managers, and appropriately direct Zoo visitor traffic.
Supervision ExercisedThis position does not exercise supervisory duties.
Important And Essential Duties- Greets and directs visitors to the Abilene Zoo and answers general questions.
- Provides administrative support for the Guest Service Managers and Assistant Managers.
- Assists with general customer service functions including answering guest inquiries, giving directions, and providing information about zoo functions and activities.
- Processes incoming and outgoing calls, registers payments, reservation and visitation paperwork, operates equipment, and prepares food.
- Maintains, inspects, cleans, inventories, and follows policies and procedures of assigned equipment, areas, and surrounding spaces.
- Assists with guest surveys and other reports.
- Guest Services employees over 18 may operate a City vehicle and/or motorized equipment (trains, gators, and golf carts).
- May assist with other Guest Services operations.

All listed requirements at the lower levels are required at higher levels. Any equivalent combination of experience and training may be qualifying.
ExperienceEntry level; preference may be given to individuals with previous customer service experience.
Education/Training- High school diploma, GED, or in the process of obtaining either is required.
- Train Operator requires staff members to be a minimum 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
- Food Handlers Permit required if preparing food.
- Bloodborne Pathogens training and Haz Com training required within 60 days of employment.
- Minimum age 16 years.
- Flexible work schedule may include nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Work in outdoor conditions and extreme heat and cold.
- Physical demands: lifting no more than 10 pounds (sedentary) or 20–25 pounds (light) in the majority of the day. Medium physical demand requires lifting up to 50 pounds during a typical workday.
