Position Description
Under direct supervision, this role supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials. The assistant provides help to faculty, residents, and students in the clinic, following the State Dental Practice Act, and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Major / Essential Functions- Assist dentist or hygienist at chair side.
- Administer Plaque Index test and provide oral hygiene instructions to patients.
- Gather charts, equipment, and supplies in a timely manner for use during appointments.
- Practice infection control procedures according to policy guidelines.
- Expose and develop dental x-rays; proficient with EVAsoft Dental Imaging Software.
- Count instruments and sharps and maintain logs of use.
- Document information in the dental record of care; assist with typing of the doctor’s patient treatment notes for inclusion into the EMR system.
- Answer routine questions and refer others to the dentist.
- Takes vital signs and records information in the record prior to invasive procedures.
High School or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience or completion of an approved dental assistant course is required. Dental Assistant registry with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

- Pay Basis:
Hourly - Pay Grade Minimum: 16.89
- Pay Grade Maximum: 42.23
- Travel Required:
Up to 25% - Shift: Day
