Position: Counselor - Elementary (Accelerated Campus Excellence - ACE Campus)
Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, Martinez Elementary will reopen as an ACE campus, a proven whole-school model that provides intentional supports to ensure that every student can succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Primary

Purpose:

The ACE Demonstration Schools Elementary Counselor plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the assigned campus to support all students-including those in special populations-in developing their academic, career, personal, and social skills.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

* Master's degree in guidance counseling

* Valid Texas counseling certificate

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Thorough knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development

* Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

* Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

* Demonstrated ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff

Experience:

* Two years counseling experience as a school counselor preferred

* Successful experience working with a diverse student and community population

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Guidance/Counseling:

* Teach campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district's guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs.

Assist teachers in the teaching of guidance-related curriculum.

* Meet with and guide individual students, groups of students, and parents to plan, monitor, and manage the student's own educational and career development including easing school transitions and providing information about post-secondary opportunities.

* Assist with the identification of students eligible for special programs, and works closely with school psychologist, teachers, diagnostician, and all ancillary personnel to help student with special program needs.

* Assist in classroom behavior management planning for students, works towards improving morale and aids in teaching by helping teachers know and better understand students.

* Keeps confidential the counseling relationship and information except when the student's condition requires intervention.

* Conferences with students, teachers, and parents concerning failing grades and works together for improvement .

* Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns.

Consultation:

* Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.

* Coordinate school, home, and community resources and refer students, parent, and others to special programs and services as needed.

* Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate.

* Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.

* Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services.

Assessment:

* Assist in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.

* Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents.

* Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment

Program Management:

* Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.

* Implement a comprehensive and balanced program.

* Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and individual activities and make changes based on findings.

* Educate the school staff, parents, and community about the guidance program through a public information program.

* Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.

Administration:

* Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area.

* Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

* Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

* Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Professional:

* Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards for school counselors including current professional standards of competence and practice; complies with Texas Education Agency (TEA) code.

* Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

* Perform other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned by the school principal and the Superintendent of Schools.
