• Prep Academy is a mastery‑based K–12 preparatory school in downtown Abilene seeking an Elementary Teacher ready to do something different. This is not a traditional classroom role. Our teachers guide K–5 students through foundational skills using the 360 Learning Model — Learn, Demonstrate, Teach — in a 5‑hour school day built around independent thinking, hands‑on application, and growing confidence as a learner.
You Will Do
- Build foundational academic skills across reading, writing, and mathematics in a mastery‑based framework
- Facilitate hands‑on, project‑based learning that connects concepts to real situations students can understand and relate to
- Identify gaps in student learning and design environments that help young learners develop independence and confidence
- Guide students in demonstrating and sharing what they know through presentations, projects, and peer instruction
- Create a high‑energy, encouraging classroom culture where struggle is part of the process

• Prep teachers work within a three‑stage mastery framework:
- Learn — Support students in working independently through coursework. Build their ability to pick up material, identify gaps, and develop as self‑sufficient learners.
- Demonstrate — Design hands‑on projects where students apply concepts to real situations. This is where the majority of the school day is spent and where great teachers thrive.
- Teach — Guide students to teach concepts to their peers. Mastery is not complete until a student can explain it clearly enough to withstand scrutiny.
- Texas teaching certificate or equivalent professional or educational experience
- Comfort working across multiple subjects in a facilitation and coaching role
- Strong problem‑solving skills and growth mindset
- Ability to design engaging, real‑world project‑based learning experiences
- Commitment to student autonomy, accountability, and mastery
No required duties. Optional tutoring, credit recovery, and summer camp opportunities available for additional income.
